One Climb 2014 Recap

Our second annual Whistler Water One Climb took place this past weekend…and boy, was it an event to remember!

Grouse Mountain was abuzz early Saturday morning as nearly 900 people “flooded” the Grouse Grind in a wave of blue to raise valuable funds for a clean water project located in a very deserving Kenyan community.

Over $60,000 in donations have been raised so far, 100 percent of which will be directed to Free The Children’s water project in Kipsongol, Kenya.

But, we don’t want to stop there!  Our Whistler Water One Climb fundraising site is still open, so donate today for this very worthy cause!

Once again this year, our amazing One Climbers stepped up to the plate and reached out to their friends, family, colleagues and classmates for donations big and small.

Two young students named Maya and Solaya were our top individual fundraisers and raised $2,408 for Whistler Water One Climb with some creative fundraising ideas!  They held bottle drives, candy sales and sold freezies to hungry high schoolers during lunch.

Have a look at the events of the day!

BLUE IT UP

Whistler Water One Climb just wouldn’t be the same without our wave of blue flooding the Grouse Grind!  Our Blue It Up stations were a hub of activity as our enthusiastic One Climbers painted their faces and yes, even their hair in blue.

GETTING PUMPED!

Free The Children ambassador Spencer West joined us once again for an inspirational and heartwarming account of his personal experiences.  The very young and incredibly talented Hannah Alper then shared how she makes a difference each and every day.

Abbotsford’s very own Victoria Duffield also spoke to a rapt audience about her recent trip to Kenya and her personal, eye-opening experience doing the ‘water walk’ with the local mamas and children.

Also joining the pre-event festivities was an uplifting performance by the Shift Dance Academy and a rousing rendition of the We Day Dance with the ivivva cheer team.

Spee, Paul and Greg from the incredibly talented band Neverest played and sang some of their catchy, chart-topping hits like “About Us and “Everything” while sharing their recent experiences on tour during Free The Children’s Year of Education

Next up were the Sole Girls, who hit the stage to pump up the crowd before hitting the Grind!

 THE CLIMB!

AT THE TOP

After a challenging yet inspiring hike of the Grind, One Climbers were treated to an amazing performance by Victoria Duffield and her backup dancers who wowed the crowd during a carnival-style mountaintop celebration on the Alpine Plaza.

Without a doubt, Whistler Water One Climb would not have been possible without the incredible support from our partners Free The Children, CTV and The Beat 94.5.

We also extend a sincere thank you to TELUS, ClearlyContacts.ca and RBC who generously donated the prizing for our top fundraisers.

For more photos from the big day, be sure to check out the One Climb Facebook page!

See you next year!  And remember it isn’t too late to donate!
